Designed on a greenfield site in Ann Arbor, The Medical Office Building is a speculative venture by a group of private physicians. Kraemer Design Group had prepared and received Site Plan Approval for this prime site along Eisenhower Boulevard. Challenged by site drainage issues, KDG proposed an innovative approach by channeling the roof water to one end of the building and directing it down a waterfall and eventually into a landscaped pond. By locating the building in the middle of the site, there is no “rear” or neglected elevation. Parking has been kept to a minimum.
Utilizing limestone and brick as the primary building materials, the facade takes on a traditional look, yet reaches towards a contemporary feeling with its extended metal cornice and glass window wall at it entry points. Inside, the three-story plan is divided by a skewed corridor, allowing for multiple clinics as needed. An exterior exit stair allows for a second means of exit in the addition to an open monumental stair within the main entry lobby.
